Most dangerous intersections in New York City

On Behalf of | Jan 22, 2019 | Firm News |

Car accidents happen all over New York City every single day, including Kew Gardens. One Kew Gardens Hills resident lost his life in a fatal collision that took place on 150th Street and Jewel Avenue.

Although auto accidents can happen anywhere in the city, they are more likely to happen in some areas over others. Officials around New York City have taken measures to decrease the number of collisions that occur in the area, such as reducing the speed limits on some streets. You should be extra cautious in some intersections, because even if you are a great driver, you never know how skilled other people are.

Most dangerous intersections

Whether you are a motorist, bicyclist or pedestrian, you want to be extra careful crossing the street. Motorists need to be aware of when pedestrians are about to cross before making a right-hand turn at a red light. Pedestrians need to make eye contact with motorists when they are in the intersection. No matter what, you want to exercise extreme caution in the following intersections due to the immense number of collisions that occur every year in them:

  • Roughly 180 collisions occur every year at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Tillary Street in Brooklyn.
  • Roughly 150 collisions occur annually at the intersection of East 59th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan.
  • Roughly 140 collisions occur every year at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan.
  • Roughly 135 collisions occur every year at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Linden Boulevard in Queens.
  • Roughly 130 collisions occur annually at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.
  • Roughly 115 collisions occur every year at the intersection of Kenmare Street and The Bowery in Manhattan.
  • Roughly 110 collisions occur annually at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 57 Street in Manhattan.
  • Roughly 110 collisions occur annually at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan.
  • Roughly 110 collisions occur every year at the intersection of Long Island Expressway and Queens Boulevard in Queens.
  • Roughly 110 collisions occur annually at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan.

If you drive through any of these streets on your commute, then you need to be careful. In the event you do end up in a collision, you need to see a doctor and contact your auto insurance agency promptly.
