Surgeon's negligence results in severe injuries, man left in coma

For many people in New York who are preparing to receive a surgical operation, the importance of planning ahead and following their doctor's orders is critical to make sure the operation is efficient and successful. In these situations, patients rely heavily on their doctor to provide professional medical care and to make decisions that are in their best interest. Surgeons who fail to recognize the critical nature of his or her job could end up losing their patients' trust, and in serious cases, compromise their patients' health and well-being.

Recently, in a complicated case out of Fresno, California, a surgeon has been accused of negligence which resulted in his patient ending up in a coma. Because the man's brain was deprived of necessary oxygen for an extended period of time, he is in a near-vegetative state for the remainder of his life. Evidence described how the man went in for an open-heart surgery which became complicated when he started to bleed out. A lawsuit filed by the man's family alleges his doctor was negligent in correcting the problem and performed other repairs that were never discussed and that put the man in danger. Following the procedure, the man suffered severe bleeding, an unexplained aortic tear, cardiac arrest and ischemia. Recently, the lawsuit was settled and the man's family was awarded $68 million for damages.

If family members have loved ones who have been the victim of a surgeon's negligence or carelessness, they may wish to hire an attorney. The benefit of having a legal professional may enable people to gather and organize evidence in a way that is persuasive. They can also receive guidance throughout the legal processes that may follow.
