Hypothermia to blame for elderly woman's death

For families of nursing home residents in New York, finding a facility that demonstrates commitment to patient care is a primary concern. Because the elderly are more vulnerable than other groups of people, it is imperative that they have access to timely, quality and thorough care to help them maintain health and overall well-being. Unfortunately, there are times where the safety of nursing home residents is compromised due to laziness, ignorance or carelessness. In a majority of situations, nursing home neglect is avoidable with the right protocols in place.

A recent incident in Pandora, Ohio has captured national attention after a 76-year-old woman was discovered deceased in the bitter winter temperatures outside of the nursing home where she lived. After the woman's body was found, an autopsy confirmed that her death was caused from hypothermia. At the time of the woman's death, the temperatures were below freezing throughout much of the state. Investigators were looking into why the woman was outside of the facility and whether or not her absence was known by the facility's management. Requests for information from the nursing home were not immediately returned. Further details about the woman's death have not been made public.

If a family suspects that their loved one is the victim of nursing home abuse or neglect, or that he or she are suffering from the consequences of sub-par quality care, they may wish to hire an attorney. With a professional at the forefront, they can be confident about creating a case that is factually correct.
