What if your preeclampsia goes undiagnosed?

If you are an expectant mother in New York City, then you are likely already well aware of your need for effective prenatal care. A number of temporary medical abnormalities such as preeclampsia can arise during pregnancy. Preeclampsia is characterized by hypertension (high blood pressure) during pregnancy. If detected, it can be managed with little risk to your or your unborn baby. Yet what if your preeclampsia goes undiagnosed?

Reviewing problems with patient handoffs

Despite the reasons behind one being admitted to a hospital in Queens, most would likely say that while there, they feel relatively safe. Yet many of those that we at Futterman, Sirotkin, and Seinfeld, LLP have worked with have personally discovered that errors can happen even in a clinical setting. If you have ever had to stay in a hospital for an extended period of time, then you have likely noticed the constant changing of nurses and other providers that were assigned to care for you. It has been shown that it is during this transfer of care between providers that many hospital errors occur.

Medication errors in nursing homes

One of the reasons prompting New York City residents to entrust the care of their loved ones to nursing homes may be so that those family members or friends will have the clinical support needed to adhere to their medication schedules. The belief may be that if their elderly or infirm loved ones are in a long-term care facility, they will be receiving the drugs they need regularly from a trained professional. However, that may not always happen.

What are the standards for perioperative care?

No two patients in Queens are exactly alike. As such, it may be virtually impossible for local healthcare providers to be completely prepared to handle every patient case they are asked to deal with. Yet even though every patient may be different, enough similarities exist between cases within the same medical disciplines that standards of care can be developed.

Linking delivery positions to the potential for birth trauma

Having a child is an event most in New York City likely look forward to with a good deal of excitement and anticipation. Yet as a good number of the clients that we here at Futterman, Sirotkin, & Seinfeld, LLP have represented can attest to, the birthing process can be extremely delicate. While it may seem like such a simple thing, even the position you're placed in during delivery could potentially increase the risk of trauma to your newborn.
