Hospital negligence: an all-too-common problem

On Behalf of | Sep 9, 2014 | Hospital Negligence |

Patients in New York and throughout the country are subjected to hospital negligence on a daily basis. Whether someone’s health suffers as a result of doctor errors, an incorrect treatment, understaffing or any other issue, hospital negligence must be addressed immediately.

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, one out of every seven Medicare patients are affected by medical errors while staying in a hospital. These errors continue to take place for numerous reasons, such as a complicated health care system and communication issues between doctors and their patients. Additionally, some hospitals fail to employ a sufficient number of workers, push their staff too far or fail to properly supervise nurses and doctors who are in training.

The consequences of hospital negligence are often severe and sometimes have a permanent impact on patients and their families. In many cases, patients lose their lives as a result of negligence, while others experience worsening conditions and considerable suffering. Whenever hospital malpractice occurs, patients have to determine the best course of action and hold hospitals accountable.

The New York State Department of Public Health provides information informing patients of their rights when they stay in one of the state’s hospitals and helping medical malpractice victims understand how to file a complaint. Whether a hospital asks one of their patients to leave without providing the services and support they need or denies access to hospital records, patients need to be aware of their rights.
