Cosmetic surgery results in nearly fatal complications

Many medical procedures have become so popular throughout New York City and other areas of the country that the general public may underestimate the potential risks and complications associated with cosmetic surgery. That's why it is the responsibility of medical professionals and surgeons to be cautious and provide patients with the necessary information to make an informed decision about their care. While there seem to be more questions than answers regarding what actually happened to one young woman that underwent breast augmentation surgery, her family believes that surgical errors resulted in her permanent disability.

The 18-year-old woman and mother at the heart of the case had breast augmentation surgery performed at a Florida cosmetic center in early August, 2013. Shortly after the procedure was performed, the patient reportedly went into a comatose state after experiencing medical complications. She is now unable to walk and requires full-time care.

The surgery was allegedly performed at a discounted rate, and a legal representative for the clinic that performed the procedure claims that the patient may have had prior medical issues that caused her to go into that two-month coma. In fact, the surgeon suggests that the young woman failed to provide him with information regarding complications she experienced during child birth, and that she may react to anesthesia.

The anesthesiologist associated with the case is linked to a prior fatal medical malpractice incident, and reportedly served time in prison on drug-related charges. The surgeon himself, however, is not reportedly connected to any previous malpractice cases.

The attorney representing the patient and her family confirmed that his client intends to file a lawsuit against the clinic on the grounds that the young woman's medical complications and current physical state are a direct result of the procedure she endured.
