Dentist accused of committing fatal surgical errors

Families throughout the state of New York and around the country put their trust in New York physicians and medical professionals to provide their children with the best care possible. After all, anyone that claims to specialize in pediatric medicine should have the knowledge and experience necessary to properly handle unique cases and emergency situations. One family is mourning the loss of a three-year-old girl who died recently from alleged medical errors committed during a minor dental procedure.

The incident happened in Hawaii in December of 2013, when the little girl underwent root canal procedures on four teeth. The child's parents claim that during the course of the procedure she was left unattended for more than 20 minutes after being administered sedatives. The parents accuse the dental practice and the dentist herself of failing to administer the proper dosages and medications to their daughter during the procedure. As a result of the dentist's alleged recklessness and negligence, the parents claim the little girl went into cardiac arrest and ultimately suffered major brain damage.

According to MRI scans performed on the child after the incident, she was in a persistent vegetative state. In the days after the dental procedure, the pediatric patient was moved out of the hospital and into hospice care. She sadly died almost a month after undergoing the root canals.

The dentist’s practice has allegedly closed. The little girl’s parents have filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the dentist, accusing her of failing to have the proper resources necessary to address the medical emergency their daughter had. There is no word on the amount of damages identified in the lawsuit, and the defendant in the case had not yet commented on the allegations posed against her.
