Baseball player accuses doctor, hospital of medical malpractice

New York City, New York, has a very rich sports culture. And while many baseball fans root for their favorite players, some forget that players are ultimately employees that can sustain serious injuries as a result of their line of work. One particularly recognizable New York baseball player recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against his physician and hospital, claiming that negligence and incorrect treatment contributed to his major injury.

Alex Rodriguez did not begin playing for the Yankees again until August of this year because of left hip surgery he underwent in January. The baseball player previously underwent surgery for his right hip four years ago. Prior to his latest surgery, the Yankees team contends that A-Rod only voiced concerns over the condition of his right hip, but the baseball player argues that the team made him play with a serious injury to his left hip.

A-Rod alleges in his medical malpractice lawsuit that a physician with the Yankees team allowed him to play even though there was medical evidence that his left hip was injured. The plaintiff also identifies a New York hospital as a defendant in the case. Because of the alleged mistreatment the baseball player endured, he claims that he suffered emotional distress and anguish, in addition to pain and injury.

The plaintiff’s medical complaints come as he pursues contract disputes with the baseball commissioner and MLB over his potential game suspension. It is not stated what damages, if any, Alex Rodriguez is seeking in his medical malpractice lawsuit. Furthermore, it is not known if he may pursue the issue with his players union or the MLB itself.
